Union forms coalition with ICCE

11 May 2009

In what promises to be an invaluable contribution to South African sports, STACAWU (Sports Trainers and Coaches Associated Workers Union) has taken hands with the International Council for Coaches Education (ICCE). This partnership, which was negotiated and decided upon on the 8th of May, will be the joint venture of both organizations’ aims and goals. An example of the endeavors that will lead out of this partnership is for example the organizing of ICCE conferences in South Africa.

This partnership will fall under the educational function of STACAWU and will be operating on a mutuality basis with the other two functions, namely recruitment and labour relations.

“Since the ICCE is a source of global knowledge and expertise in the coaching and sports environment, we are fortunate to be able to join forces with them. As we are also aimed towards giving all coaches the best possible knowledge and frame of reference, this largely agrees with what the ICCE is striving for. This promises to be of great value to all involved with sports in South Africa,” said Andra Ferreira, General Secretary of STACAWU.

Steve Noi, vice-president of the ICCE for Africa, also enthused about the possibilities that this partnership. “When looking at the mission statement of the ICCE, one can’t help but notice the way that it coincides with what STACAWU is trying to do. We are happy to form a good and working relationship with them.” One of the first ventures that will probably source from this newly found infusion is a continental ICCE-conference during next year. Further details will be given through in due time.
