The First West Africa - ICCE Global Coach Conference
Winneba, Ghana,
November 24-25, 2000.

Report from ICCE President Dr. Uri Schaefer

Dear Friends,
I am taking this opportunity to report to you with great enthusiasm concerning the first West Africa - ICCE GLOBAL COACH conference held in Winneba, Ghana.

The conference was very well organized by Steve Noi - our dear member from Sth Africa. His contribution to the success of the conference was second to none.

Furthermore, Steve, a native Ghanian, returned to the place of his birth and received the support and outstanding cooperation of the National Sports college and the local University Faculty for Physical Education.

The presentations made were very well structured and presented and the event included an opening ceremony conducted by the Deputy Minister for Sport as well the National Sports College Director. During the two days of the conference, further presentations were made, among them - by the 1st Vice-President of the Gahana Olympic Committee the topic of sports marketing; a presentation related to the History of Sport in Ghana by the director of the Sports College as well as Dr. Jurgen's Kozel two presentations on Coach Education in Europe and my presentations on the ICCE and Spiz.com as well as on the Coach Education Trends in the 3rd Millennium.

All of these were very well accepted. The relations that developed between us and the delegates and the organizers in particular were very special, warm and genuine. Furthermore, we were assured by the Deputy Minister and the officials from Ghana, as well as from Liberia and Togo, that they indeed are going to join the ICCE.

They further expressed their thanks and appreciation to the ICCE and SPIZ for all the assistance provided in organizing this conference which resulted in the formation of a Committee to enhance and deepen and develop coach education in Ghana in order to set standards and systematic structures in this field as all agreed that this is a need which arises and be addressed

I thank Dr. Kozel for his participation, and I presented small tokens of appreciation to the organizers and the delegates from Togo and Liberia. I do hope that we will see them at the next ICCE conference in UTAH.

As far as I am concerned this was a dream come true!

Sincerely yours,
Dr. Uri Schaefer
